  • We need to believe that God will answer our prayers. God will answer the prayers of the faithful, in His time and in His way. We must be patient and faithful, willing to commit to whomever we pray for no matter how long it takes. We need to pray with faith and perseverance.  See Mark 11:24, Matthew 21:21-22, Luke 18:1-8
  • We need to show people we can be trusted. We should pray for people without gossiping to others about what we hear. We must hold prayer requests in the strictest confidence. The only exceptions would be a situation that threatens imminent harm to someone. (For example: a child who is being abused, or someone who confesses to you that they are going to harm another person.) In that case, you should inform the church leadership and if appropriate, inform other authorities. See Proverbs 11:13, Proverbs 16:28, Proverbs 20:19
  • We should not judge the people who come for prayer. We should do our utmost to make people comfortable with us so that we can pray with them in honesty and love. We never see the entire picture the way God does, and we hardly ever know the circumstances that brought a person to where they are. Judgment belongs to God, not us.  See Matthew 7:1-2, Luke 6:36-37, 1 Corinthians 4:5, James 4:12
